When Should You Inspect Your Roof?

Whether you’re living with a roof you inherited when you bought your home or you’ve got a roof you had installed, it’s a good idea to review your roof regularly.

With the Change of Seasons, at Least Twice a Year

Change in SeasonsIt’s a good idea to check on your roof at the end of one extreme season and before the next. Your roof is vulnerable to extremes of temperature that happen during cold weather, whether snowy or not, and hot sunny days.

    • The beginning of Fall/Winter
    • The beginning of Spring/Summer

Because extreme heat and extreme cold can both be punishing to a roof, especially over the course of several seasons, include roof inspection in your seasonal checklists.

After a Storm or Extreme Weather

If a large tree branch lands on your roof after a big storm, chances are you’ll know. But even if there is no loud “thud!”, it’s wise to look over your roof after extreme winds, rains, or storms.

  • Remove debris if possible, but don't risk your safety in doing so.
  • Keep a careful eye when there is excessive snow on the roof, which can lead to ice dams that pose a serious risk to your roof and home.

The sooner you act on possible roof damage, the better. Often, small leaks become big ones and small issues become major headaches.

Don't forget to include the gutters in your inspections! And if you're unsure of the extent of the damage, contact Erin's Roofing for a thorough inspection.
